When Naomi and her wife became pregnant, they were overjoyed, but at 24 weeks Naomi woke up with a gut feeling that something was wrong. When they arrived at the hospital, they heard the words that caused their worlds to stop: “I’m sorry.” Following Remi's stillbirth, the couple attended their local Sands support group in Derby and found community and great support from everyone there. They share how they are sometimes reluctant to call themselves mothers, but they know that they are mothers in their own way to their lovely daughter.

When Kris heard the news his daughter Eva had no heartbeat he just wanted out. Watching his partner being surrounded by doctors, nurses and midwives, it felt like the weight of the world was on top of him. He shares how since losing Eva, he and his partner have created self-care boxes for other bereaved parents at the hospital they were cared for named after their beautiful girl, how a poem he wrote for Eva has been displayed in the hospital and how after months of trying to find the right help for himself, he joined Glasgow and Lanarkshire Sands United football team which has helped him mentally and physically.

When Kyle saw a doctor look to a nurse with concern that was the moment he knew something was wrong. Shortly afterwards, a registrar delivered the news he and his partner Rachelle feared - that their baby daughter Bluebell had no survival chances even if she was born with a heartbeat. He reflects how in the weeks that followed, it became apparent the lack of support available for people in his position.

Andy's daughter Ellie had Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, (her organs were in the wrong places), and she also had Spina bifida, so Andy and his wife made the difficult decision to have a Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR).

George shares how in September 2025, at 22 weeks, his daughter Heidi was lost due to preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). It was he and his wife Hannah's second loss as they also experienced a miscarriage in 2024. Following their losses, the couple attend monthly Sands support meetings in York and have recently completed 'Heidi's Walk', a fundraising walk which raised over £5,000 for Sands.

Ellie shares how she found out that her triplet girls no longer had a heartbeat at 20 weeks. When they were born in January 2026 they were the most beautiful girls Ellie had ever seen, and in the hospital she and her partner were given a Sands memory box which gave them comfort and they spent five precious days reading, singing and holding their daughters.
