When Louisa found out her 22 year old daughter Megan was pregnant she was delighted, but at 19 weeks and four days, Louisa and Megan were told Megan’s waters had gone. Their lives fell apart from that moment as they were told that their beautiful princess Sienna would not survive and that Megan was at great risk of infection. Louisa shares that as Megan was induced, and they experienced a second trimester loss, she’s never felt pain like it. When her granddaughter, Sienna was born they spent every moment they could with her, making memories that will be etched in their hearts forever and always.

When I found out my 22 year old daughter Megan was pregnant, delighted was an understatement! She has trained really hard since leaving school to become a nursery nurse and she made it happen a year ago – I’m a proud mum indeed. She was made for the job and is so amazing with kids, so when she told me she was going to be a mum herself it was the best news ever! 

At her first scan we sobbed. We got to see her baby for the first time, and it made it all real, their tiny body growing nicely and their little heartbeat racing beautifully. 

Next, we had a private scan as my daughter was so excited to find out the baby’s gender. We wanted to share the news with family and friends at the same time so we planned a small gender reveal the next day. We were so sure she was having a boy but to our amazement we found out she was having a girl 💗 this was amazing! Watching all my daughters’ dreams come true was incredible. 

She was growing a tiny little bump, and her little girl’s heart was beating nicely, and all was going to plan. 

Then a few weeks later my daughter started spotting. We called the hospital and were told this can be quite normal but if we were worried she could come to the hospital and get seen, which we did right away. They checked her over and just said to keep an eye on it and if it got worse to come back. This continued on and off for three days. My daughter hadn’t slept as she was so scared so on the third visit, I was adamant they kept her in and investigated further. She was due another scan in a week but the hospital said they could bring it forward. We still had to wait another 48 hours to find out what was happening though. 

That day came. We sat in the waiting room relieved we were finally going to get some answers. We entered the room and Megan laid down. They started scanning her and even I, myself, knew something didn’t look right. Megan was 19 weeks and four days at this point and they told us Megan’s waters had gone. Our lives fell apart from that moment. 

We headed back to the ward where we had to wait for a midwife to talk to us and tell us what we basically already knew at this point, that our beautiful princess Sienna would not survive and my daughter was at great risk of infection. 

Megan was hooked up to a drip to help keep the infection away but told she would need to take some tablets to bring on labour, our hearts were completely broken. Sienna’s heartbeat was strong how could this happen to her? Why is life so unfair? 

Induction of labour started and Megan was so amazing. I have never felt pain like it, but the support was amazing. 

Sienna Louise was born on the 15th February 2026 weighing 250g and she was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. We spent the next few days spending every moment we could with her, making memories that will be etched in our hearts forever and always. 

We are now 12 weeks in, but the pain feels like it was just yesterday. I had to return to work, and Megan has to, but she’s now decided the pain is too much to stay around and has decided she wants to see some of the world and take Sienna with her in her heart. She’s now landed her dream job and will be going cruising, seeing the world while carrying on working her dream job with kids onboard.

In June, a close friend of ours, Josh, who was there to witness Sienna being born and was our rock took on a skydive for Sands to raise money and awareness for the charity.
