How do I send a legacy gift?

You can send a cheque payable to Sands to:

London SE1 1SZ

If you want to send the gift by other means please get in touch and we'll be happy to help you.

What information do I need to provide?

When sending information about a legacy gift, it's helpful to provide:

  • Full name and last address of the person leaving the gift
  • The date of death
  • Executor's name and contact details
  • A copy of the Will that names Sands
  • The name of the person whose memory the gift is honouring (if applicable)
  • Any information about Sands is the chosen charity. This isn't essential, but knowing the reasons behind such special gifts is helpful.

How do I know if a gift is for Sands?

The Will you are administering should include the name of the charity and the registered charity number. If it includes one of the following names or registered charity numbers, we confirm that the gift is intended for Sands. If you're still unsure, please get in touch so we can help.

Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death society - England & Wales - 299679, Scotland SC042789

The Stillbirth Association

Stillbirth and Perinatal Death Association (SPDA)

How do I administer property or shares gifted to you?

In most cases, we would prefer to receive the sale proceeds of property or shares gifted to Sands in a Will. However, we understand that each case is different, so please get in touch.

How is tax calculated

As a UK-registered charity we are exempt from paying inheritance tax. This means that gifts to Sands are deducted from the estate before inheritance tax is calculated. Depending on the type and size of gift, this could result in a lower rate of inheritance tax for non-charitable beneficiaries of the estate.

Calculating tax due on an estate can be complicated. To avoid paying more tax than necessary, please consult a solicitor.
