For our Together, we are Sands campaign, we are celebrating the impact of the connections made within and beyond the Sands community.

Thank you to Sarah for sharing her connection to our community – a community unlike any other.

"My name is Sarah and I have been involved with Sands for 13 years, since my daughter, Charlie died in March 2010.

"I have made a very special connection with a bereaved mum, Rosie, who lives in my village, as the wonderful midwife who cared for me, also cared for her when sadly, her baby girl, Layla died in 2016.

"Wendy, the midwife who cared for me in the community when I was pregnant with my daughter Charlie, also supported me after she died. She continued beyond the usual timescale community midwives are supposed to visit, even if I had brought Charlie home. We are still in contact now and she supports Sands.

"She then cared for Rosie in hospital when her daughter Layla died. Wendy told Rosie about me because we live in the same village and she knows of everything I have done for Sands. Rosie has supported Sands with fundraising over the years.

"Wendy thought it would be helpful for both of us to be in touch with each other. Rosie messaged me nearly four years ago and we finally met in person early last year. She is a beautiful soul and we now see each other often.

"Although the pandemic prevented us from meeting properly for a while, we now have a treasured friendship and in October last year, we organised our first ribbon display in our village for baby loss awareness week with the support of people within our community.

"I’m so grateful to Wendy for helping Rosie and I connect through our shared experience and our involvement with Sands."
