For our Together, we are Sands campaign, we are celebrating the impact of the connections made within and beyond the Sands community.

Thank you to Bhavna for sharing her connection to our community – a community unlike any other.

“I reached out to Sands following a marketing message on Facebook asking for Black/Asian parents who’s experienced baby loss to attend a focus group in January 2022. Following from that, Madhuri invited me to be a part of the South Asian community which I obliged. There was something with Madhuri, where we both clicked after our first telephone conversation and immediately warmed to her and what she wanted to achieve within the South Asian community when it came to baby loss.

We’ve met in person, met with the BBC, I’ve now begun training as a befriender which is soon about to complete and I shall be co hosting a support group with Madhuri next week. Since meeting Madhuri my husband too has felt the confidence to speak about his loss, he featured on a podcast and is about to embark on the Snowdon midnight climb in May (solo) which is definitely out of his comfort zone but will be an amazing opportunity for him to speak to others about his grief.

We both have gained so much from Sands, not only do we feel recognised as Asian bereaved parents but it’s given us a purpose and we now want to do more in Joshan’s legacy.I hope by being a befriender for Surrey Sands, I will be able to encourage other South Asian bereaved parents to come forward and speak about their loss as it came be extremely lonely. Lastly, thanks to Madhuri for giving us this opportunity for our voices to be heard. Eternally grateful”.

Through all these different experiences, the one connection remains, our precious and loved babies.
