Why?

One in two of us, or somebody we know, has experienced the loss of a pregnancy or death of a baby. Too often, we don’t understand why. That’s why we need to take action. Now.

Join the team running together, using our combined power to inspire change and prevent babies from dying. Our runs won't go unnoticed, and the sponsorship we collect will lead to action - saving babies' lives and improving maternity safety and bereavement care through research, training and campaigning.

Run in memory of every much-loved baby and create a legacy of change. Whether you run, walk, dance or climb, be part of the team taking on #Run50kForSands

You may have questions about the challenge. If you need to speak to a member of our team, you can email run@sands.org.uk – but we’re quite busy so it may take us a couple of days to get back to you. In the meantime, you can read our FAQs below.

FAQ's

How do I sign up?

Register to sign up to the challenge.

You can register for your t-shirt, set up your fundraiser, get tips, be inspired and find out anything you want to know about the challenge!

Why have some people started the challenge already?

Some people are training for the challenge now and sharing their runs with the group, but most people are starting the challenge on 1st September!

Can I do a shorter/longer/earlier/later challenge?

Yes! Every run you do will help Sands. So do this challenge in whatever way works best for you. Every run is very much appreciated!

Is there an entry fee?

There is no entry fee for this challenge but we do however ask you to fundraise as part of your challenge. Once you have registered for the challenge your fundraising page will be automatically created for you, so you can start fundraising straight away. And then it’s really easy to share the page with your family and friends.

Is there a fundraising target?

We have no minimum or maximum amount that we would like you to raise. From our point of view, no matter how much money you raise, it will go towards supporting bereaved families across the UK.

All those that raise £175 or more with receive an EXCLUSIVE limited edition Sands medal. ✨. And if you don’t quite make the target, then our limited edition medals will also be available to buy online.

Can I just raise money offline with a sponsorship form?

Absolutely. You can collect sponsorship in any way you like. We simply recommend creating a Fundraiser for this challenge as they’re easy and hassle-free, but you can download a sponsorship form, if you prefer.

Once your fundraising is completed, please add your donations onto your fundraising page and email a screenshot of your sponsorship form to run@sands.org.uk.

My family want to do the challenge with me. Can they have t-shirt?

No problem! Simply ask them to fill out the registration form and we will send them a pack.

If they're not fundraising, you can buy additional t-shirts.

How do I keep track of how many kilometres I've done?

The Health app on iPhone or Google Fit app on Android both keep track of how many Kms you do each day. There’s other apps available so do pick whichever works best for you.

If you have a pedometer, sports watch, Apple Watch or FitBit, these can usually keep track of your Kms too.

Once you're done for the day, mark off your Kms on your paper tracker, which you can download.

Do I have to run my Kms, or can I jog or walk?

It’s up to you! We think most people will run the Kms, but if you want to complete them a different way, then go for it! Just be sure to post your progress and updates on your Fundraising page so friends and family can cheer you on and we can see how you’re doing too!

What if I don't complete the challenge?

The only thing that matters is that you challenge yourself. Do as much as you can. Every km helps.

When will my T-shirt arrive?

T-shirts will be posted in batches from the 15th August and throughout the rest of the month of August. It will take 10 working days for your T-shirt to arrive.

Can I use Strava?

Yes of course!

Yes of course and you can HERE.

When and where is the challenge taking place?

This a virtual 50 kilometres running challenge throughout the month of September. You can break down the 50k over the 30 days in September. You can run locally or venture further afield and run alone or with family and friends.

I still haven't got my t-shirt yet, where is it?

Sorry you haven't received your t-shirt yet. Your t-shirt will take up to 10 working days in the post. You can email your details to run@sands.org.uk and we'll check this.
