Sands is pleased to be involved as a stakeholder in the MBRRACE-UK collaboration that investigates maternal deaths, stillbirths and neonatal deaths. As of April 2012 MBRRACE-UK (Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risk through Audit and Confidential Enquiries) has taken over work previously undertaken by CMACE (Centre for Maternal and Child Enquiries).
The aims of MBRRACE-UK, which includes investigators from Oxford, London, Leicester, Liverpool and Birmingham Universities, are to provide robust information to support the delivery of safe, equitable, high quality, patient-centred maternal, newborn and infant health services. By being part of this collaborative, Sands is able to provide the family perspective on issues relating to improving perinatal care.
The continuation of this work, which was stalled from April 2011 for 12 months leading to a loss of at least a year’s worth of perinatal data, was one of Sands’ key demands in our recent publication Preventing Babies Deaths: what needs to be done.
