The Brecon Beacons run through the centre of South Wales and are the training ground of the SAS. As you can imagine, The Beacons routes will provide you with an extreme physical workout and a psychologically taxing challenge, crossing the highest peaks in South Wales including Pen y Fan (886m), Corn Du (873m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan y Big (719m) – we can guarantee a spectacular charity challenge!

25km Route

We leave the Event Village in the opposite direction to the other 3 routes and spend some time walking on country roads following sections of the Three Rivers Ride path. After approximately 9 km we make our ascent to Pen Y Fan. From the checkpoint we head up onto the ridge of Cefn Cwm Llwch and we soon summit Pen Y Fan where we momentarily join other routes before beginning our ascent under the Corn Du ridge. As we descend into the valley we get views of the lake below us and upon reaching it we follow the valley before our final leg back on country roads to the Event Village.

50km Route

We leave the Event Village with the 75k and 100k routes and spend some time on the Taff Trail next to the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. We walk along the canal until we enter Talybont Forest followed by the Taf Fechan Forest. As we exit the forest we begin our ascent to Fan y Big. After summiting there, we ascend a bit further to summit Pen Y Fan. From here, we will descend and then re-join the Taff Trail, this is where we leave the 75k and 100k routes. Our route back will be on country roads on and off the Taff Trail before entering Brecon and back along the canal to the Event Village.

75km Route

We leave the Event Village with the 50k and 100k routes and spend some time on the Taff Trail next to the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. We walk along the canal until we enter Talybont Forest followed by the Taf Fechan Forest. As we exit the forest we begin our ascent to Fan y Big. After summiting there, we ascend a bit further to summit Pen Y Fan. From here, we will descend and head in a different direction to the 50k route. We will re-join the Taff Trail and follow this passed Beacons, Cantref and Llwyn-on Reservoir. After this, we walk through the more built up area of Merthyr Tydfil. Staying on the Taff Trail we leave Merthyr Tydfil and head back in the Taf Fechan Forest. As we exit the forest we begin our ascent to Fan y Big. After summiting there, we begin our return back to the Event Village along quite country roads.
