Alice is a bereaved mother and she is very kindly donating her profits from the proceeds of her  book ‘"Dead Babies and Seaside Towns’ to Sands. She has written about a chance meeting with a long ago bereaved mother that she had recently. 

One of Sands' parents Jeanne Nicholls who gave a candid and heartfelt account of what it was like to be a bereaved parent in the 1970s, and be part of what she calls the ‘silent generation’,  when  lack of acknowledgement, information and support reinforced the isolation and loss felt  by bereaved parents at that time. She also explains how she came across Sands.
