The Elaine Thorp Award for Bereavement Care aims to recognise the vital work done by midwives, nurses, and other health professionals to care for parents affected by pregnancy loss or the death of their baby. The award was relaunched in 2023.

2025

The 2025 Award winner was Janine Dougan, a retired Health Visitor and Nurse from Northern Ireland.

Janine was nominated by bereaved parents Thomas and Victoria for the care she provided them through the loss of their daughter, Alexa. You can read our news story about Janine and find out more about why she was nominated.

2024

The 2024 Award winner was Julie Wills, a Midwife at St Michael's Hospital in Bristol.

Julie was nominated by two family members; bereaved mum, Natalie and grandparent, Julie.

The 2023 Award winner was Gemma Sayer, a bereavement support midwife at Airedale General Hospital in West Yorkshire.
