A mum has shared moving photos of the 16 days she spent with her newborn after she passed away.

Doctors were forced to break the devastating news to Charlotte Szakacs, 21, and her husband Attila, 28, after their baby girl Evlyn was diagnosed with unbalanced chromosome translocation at a 20-week scan. Tragically, when Evyln was born in December 2016, she had an underdeveloped brain, narrow airways in her nose and lungs and a narrow aorta, the main artery that leads from the heart. 

During the difficult grieving process, Charlotte and Attila remained at the hospice for 12 days while Evlyn was kept refrigerated in a ‘cuddle cot’.

Dr Clea Harmer, chief executive at stillbirth and neonatal death charity Sands, said: “We were very sorry to hear about the death of baby Evlyn and send our condolences to her parents.

“A cold cot allowed Evlyn’s parents to spend extra time with their daughter after she had died, and some parents tell us that spending time with their babies at home or in hospital can help them with the grieving process.

“I would urge anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby to contact us.”
