Could you organise a display?

By hosting a Ribbon Display you will be helping to raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss in your community. They can help start conversations and provide bereaved families with the opportunity to remember their much-loved babies during Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Maria, a bereaved Mum from Clacton-on-Sea, decided to host her first ribbon display in 2019, she said:

“I just want people to know they are not alone, and that they have a place to remember their little one."

If you choose to take donations, Ribbon Displays can also raise valuable funds for Sands. Funds raised in memory of the much-loved babies being remembered will fund further work to save babies' lives and support bereaved families so fewer and fewer ribbons are added to displays in the future.

How do I organise a display?

The size and design of the display is really up to you, we love to see all the different variations up and down the country. From paper displays in shop windows to ribbons hung from tress, there are so many ways to interpret a Sands Ribbon Display for Baby Loss Awareness Week.

To help you with your display, we will send you a pack including materials and resources to make your display a success.

Any questions?

Please do read through our FAQ's below but if you can't find the answer, you're looking for please do contact our fundraising team by emailing ribbon.displays@sands.org.uk

When are Ribbon Displays organised?

Ribbon Displays are encouraged to be organised for the duration of Baby Loss Awareness Week which is 9 - 15 October 2023. But if you can't do the full week you could organise a display for a shorter length of time to suit you! Just make this clear to those supporting you.

How to I register my interest in running my own Ribbon Display?

Simply register your interest using our registration form and we will be in touch.

Where do I get the ribbons from?

Once you register we will email you with our paper template ribbons which can be printed and our knitting template. Alternatively you can look to source your own physical ribbon. In our 'How to Guide' we detail how you might want to go about this and provide you with supporting documents.

You dont have to use ribbons if you dont wish. We welcome creativity and whatever works for you! We have had a variety of different displays previously, including hearts, wood and stars.

I would like to support a Ribbon Display rather than organise my own

If you would like to support a display in your area, keep checking the BLAW map to see what events are happening near you.

Do I need to get permission to use my location of choice?

All locations will need permission from the person that owns the area, if the location is council owned you will need to contact your local council and find out what their procedure is, all councils operate slightly differently with some having booking forms and others being more informal.
