We are delighted to announce Professor Sarah Stock as our newest Ambassador, who will help drive our work to save babies’ lives.

Sarah is Honorary Professor in Maternal and Fetal Health at the University of Edinburgh, with expertise in stillbirth and preterm birth.

She is also a Women’s Health Program Director at Wellcome Leap - a non-profit organisation that builds bold, unconventional programs that aim to deliver breakthroughs in human health over five to ten years.

Sarah is leading Wellcome Leap In Utero - a $50 million global programme focused on developing new technologies that can be used at scale to measure and predict how a baby is developing in the womb.

"Becoming an Ambassador for Sands matters deeply to me, both personally and professionally. The charity’s commitment to saving babies’ lives and supporting families when a baby dies aligns closely with my own values. Compassionate, evidence-led action is essential—not only to support bereaved families, but to prevent baby deaths wherever possible.

"Through my professional work in health innovation to reduce stillbirth, I see my role as an Ambassador as a way to help bridge research, care, and public understanding. By using my profile and networks to amplify Sands’ voice, I hope to champion prevention and support research being translated into real-world impact.

"I am proud to work alongside Sands and share the ambition that, together, we can save more babies’ lives."

- Professor Sarah Stock

Sarah has been involved with Sands for many years and was previously a Trustee from 2019 to 2025 before stepping after completing her six-year term of office.

"It is wonderful to welcome Professor Sarah Stock as our newest Sands Ambassador. Sarah is a long-standing volunteer and partner in the work of Sands, and it is wonderful to be building on this relationship.

"In October last year I spent two days at the Royal Institution of Science with Professor Stock, learning about ground-breaking innovations from the In Utero research programme and helping to build a vision for next generation antenatal care.

"To save more babies’ lives, we need new tools for accurate and individualised risk assessment - so that the right care is consistently offered to the right families at the right time.

"Working together, Sands and Professor Stock will be able to combine clinical research excellence and the voice of bereaved parents, to bring about changes that save babies' lives."
