Professor Sarah Stock, MD, PhD, is a Women’s Health Program Director at Wellcome Leap – a non-profit organization that builds bold, unconventional programs that aim to deliver breakthroughs in human health over 5–10 years.

She developed and directed In Utero, a $50M initiative with a goal of cutting stillbirth rates in half by developing scalable methods to measure, model, and predict gestational development in utero.

Under Sarah’s leadership, the global program teams pioneered non-invasive, adaptable approaches to accurately detect vulnerable babies – tools that can be combined to enable accessible, next-generation antenatal care. Sarah is now leading on the translation of the most promising technologies.

The program is part of Wellcome Leap’s broader commitment to advancing women’s health, with over $250M committed to date (Feb 2026)

Sarah is Honorary Professor in Maternal and Fetal Health at the University of Edinburgh, with expertise in stillbirth and preterm birth. With a laboratory science background, she focuses on clinical trials and international data-driven studies.

She earned her MD from Manchester University Medical School and PhD in Reproductive Biology from University of Edinburgh and completed her specialist and subspecialist Maternal and Fetal Medicine clinical training at Edinburgh, with periods at Glasgow, London and Australia.
