With my loss, something really unexpected happened. When I finally opened up about it, it actually brought me closer to my mum. For a long time, I didn’t think she’d understand — I assumed she wouldn't know what to say or how to support me.

But when I started sharing my grief with her, she opened up too. She told me about her own journey, how back then, she didn’t have anyone to talk to. No space to grieve. No support. And through those conversations, we found this kind of quiet understanding. It really brought us closer in a way I didn’t see coming.

That’s why the communities created by Sands are so important. When you talk to someone — whether it’s family, a friend, or someone who’s walked a similar path — you never know what they’ve carried. And sometimes, by opening up, you not only start your own healing, but you help someone else start theirs too.

Talking can feel hard. But it’s through those conversations that connection and healing really begin. No one should face pregnancy and baby loss alone
