Latest news on the taskforce

The Scottish maternity review team has published details on how families who have experienced loss can contribute to the review and share their experiences and insights on maternity services. 

The review website states that, “Listening to women who have experienced loss, harm or trauma and their partners or families is an important part of the scope of this review. We will be offering individual interviews for those who wish this, with a trauma-informed approach sensitive to the fact parents want lessons to be drawn from their experiences, while telling their stories can be difficult and painful. “

If you would like to share your experiences and insight with the review team, you can contact them by emailing ScotlandMaternityReview@citystgeorges.ac.uk, providing your contact details and reasons for contacting them. 

The review team will then get in contact with you to arrange further contact. 

The review team have also stated that they will be organising listening events and roundtables as part of their engagement. We will update this page with any further information about these.

We know that sharing experiences of care can be difficult, especially when you may have already done this before. Please remember that if any time you feel you no longer wish to take part after contacting the review team, it is ok to stop.

On 5 October 2026, the Independent Review of Maternity Services commenced, with a final report due in July 2027. 

The review team will be undertaking evidence gathering between October 2026 and April 2027.

On 11 June 2026, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Care announced the launch of an independent review to improve maternity care. 

The review will be chaired by Professor Christine McCourt.

The Scottish Government have announced that Ann Gow, Deputy Chief Executive of Healthcare Improvement Scotland, and Professor Anna Glasier, Scotland’s Women’s Health Champion, have been appointed as Vice Chairs of the Scottish Maternity and Neonatal Taskforce.
