Thank you to our amazing Sands Champions for Baby Loss Awareness Week 2023

Every year, from October 9th to 15th, Baby Loss Awareness Week takes place. It is an opportunity for those who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or baby, along with their loved ones, to come together with people worldwide. The objective is to pay tribute to the lives of their babies and lost pregnancies. Charities are at the forefront of this effort, working to raise awareness of baby and pregnancy loss in the UK while also supporting those who have been impacted. It is crucial that we raise awareness and strive to decrease the number of losses. These charities collaborate with healthcare professionals and other organisations to enhance bereavement care and support and to lower the number of infant and pregnancy losses.

As a Partner, I am filled with pride knowing that not only does the Partnership support me and other Partners, but they are also showing their support to the rest of the world. It is my hope that other organisations will take notice of our example and follow in our footsteps for years to come.

Lightfoots Solicitors are proud to be a Sands Champion for Baby Loss Awareness Week. As our nominated Charity of the Year, it is not only important that we do what we can to raise valuable funds for Sands but also to raise wider awareness of the important work Sands does both in terms of research and the invaluable support it provides to families who suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby before, during or shortly after birth.

In December of 2022, my family’s life changed forever. The night sky gained a bright star of my niece – Myah Maria Bhalla. Everyday my sister and brother-in-law gain the strength to keep telling their story. This is due to the support Sands offer, in therapy and in events, fundraisers, the memory box and the option to talk when needed.  I am not a hugger, so I offer my support to those who need through spreading the word of Sandsand their work.

I spent many years struggling with fertility challenges and failed IVF treatments and understand first-hand how difficult and lonely the journey can feel. It wasn't until I started talking about my experiences, I realised that there are so many others also struggling and I knew I could use my experiences to offer support. I spent 3 years as the chair of my employer's fertility & loss employee led network, leading support circles, sharing resources and helping to implement changes in policy across the organisation. Knowing that through my struggles, I was able to help others and working with Sands over the past few years to support BLAW gave me a huge sense of purpose.

When I was made redundant earlier this year, I took the opportunity to continue sharing support through the creation of LEAF Well-being, which I hope will become a valued hub with a wealth of resources and access to support for many well-being challenges that people face. I'm taking part in BLAW to not only remember babies I have lost, but also in continued support of the work Sands do.

For Rosa...

Supporting Sands is crucial for me. When I lost my daughter through stillbirth at 30 weeks times were dark. It’s organisations like Sands that help you find the light again. Families need support in these challenging times and Sands has the knowledge and resources to help those in need. If I can make even the smallest of impact by giving back through my business, I absolutely will.

I had the privilege of working for Sands nearly a decade ago. While working in the Improving Bereavement Care team and updating Sands' Guidelines for Professionals, I met many bereaved parents and learned so much from them. I was also amazed by how much these parents (and other family members) had benefitted from the support of Sands and its communities. On top of this, I was blown away by the efforts of so many bereaved parents who worked, volunteered or fundraised for Sands so that they could help other families. As a result, I feel strongly about being able to continue supporting the important work of Sands to prevent babies from dying, support bereaved parents and improve bereavement care.

Breaking the silence, ending the taboo in memory of Holly-Ann Chantelle Crouch and angels everywhere.

We have decided to partner with Sands because we believe it's important to raise as much awareness of baby loss as possible. We are aware of how this is something that has impacted so many people, so raising more awareness and supporting their efforts via fundraising is so important to us. Not only that, but in our work environment we have staff members who have sadly been affected by baby loss in their lives one way or another, so we feel it's important to show as much support, compassion, and comfort as we can to our co-workers.

Partnering with Sands is one of the ways we can do that. We hope our fundraising efforts will contribute in some way to supporting those going through one of the most difficult times of their lives.
