Following the publication of the independent review of midwifery services led by Professor Renfrew, “Enabling Safe, Quality Midwifery Services and Care in Northern Ireland”, the Department of Health are overseeing a programme of work on maternity and neonatal services. 

The Department of Health have said that this will culminate in a comprehensive, consolidated Regional Action Plan for improving maternity and neonatal services.
