Eileen shares how 26 years ago her son Jack was born at 25 weeks and six days. When she and her husband arrived at the hospital, they were told that Jack would be born too early (stillbirth) and there was nothing that could be done to save him. Jack was born bum first and Eileen and her husband held him. He turned his cheek to her and then Eileen felt him pass away in her arms. 26 years on there’s not a day that passes that Eileen doesn’t think about Jack. She’ll never get over the pain of losing him but her two rainbow daughters help her to cope.
Our son Jack was born at 25 and six weeks’ gestation. I had felt so well but I started to get period pains and discharge on a Friday, so I went to my GP who sent me to hospital where they checked me and sent me home.
My husband and I went out with friends on the Saturday then on the Sunday I knew something was wrong as the period pains were strong and radiating round my back. I called the hospital who told us to come in. We didn’t say a single word all the way there.
When we arrived, I started to run up the hospital corridor as I could feel my baby crowning. We were told that our baby would be born too early and that there would be nothing they could do to save him.
I started to have full on labour pains and then our son came out bum first. We held him, he turned his cheek to me, and then I felt him pass away in my arms. I was in complete shock. It's a loss I can't even describe.
It's now been 26 years since we lost our son, and we have been blessed with two daughters. There’s not a day that passes that I don't think of Jack. I changed that day forever. I will never get over the pain of losing my son but my rainbow babies help me to cope.
