Lynne shares how she had three miscarriages in total but also carried two beautiful daughters, Tia and Sara, to full term. She and her husband lost their first daughter at 20 months due to croup and proven mishandling by medical staff. Their second daughter was diagnosed with Leukaemia at seven months old, just five months after the loss of her sister. She fought until she was three and a half years old.
Lynne has written a book about how she and her husband navigated this dreadful period and started a charity to honour her girls and help other families.
I know the pain this loss can carry. We had three miscarriages in total but also carried two beautiful daughters to full term. We lost our first daughter Tia at 20 months old due to croup and the mishandling by medical staff (proven). Our second beautiful daughter Sara was diagnosed with Leukaemia at seven months old, five months after we lost her sister. She fought this until she was three and a half years old.
This pain is deep and will never leave you or become easier. What eases is the way you carry the grief.
My husband and I have written a book Still Here about our life and how we navigated this dreadful period in our lives. It is important for us to share as there are many other exceptionally sad stories out there for those parents who perhaps didn't get the support they needed. Like so many bereaved parents, we discovered that while there are many excellent clinical resources available after a loss like this, there were very few books that simply sat alongside you from someone else who had actually lived through it. One thing we heard time and time again was how difficult it is to find resources written by parents who have actually experienced the loss of a child. There are many excellent books that explain grief, but far fewer that allow bereaved parents to feel truly understood by someone who has walked the same road.
We wrote Still Here because we wanted grieving parents, families and loved ones to know they are not alone, and we wanted to share the thoughts, emotions, struggles and tiny moments of hope that only someone who has walked this path can truly understand. Readers have already told us that the book has helped them feel understood, less isolated and more hopeful during some of the darkest days of their lives. That means more to us than any sales figure ever could.
If you’re experiencing loss, we ask you to please not go through these times on your own, to be around those who love you, ask them for their support and accept their kindness graciously.
Try to honour those you have lost by loving them deeply. I spoke of my girls often to ensure they stayed with me, shared my life as I slowly put one foot in front of the other, and they lived on through my own strength.
