After losing her baby, Ben Raphael, in 2013, Fiona raised over £1,000 for Sands. She also wrote a poem about stillbirth to offer comfort to other relatives who have lost a baby.

When you quietly took your leave

Last night I dreamt of the day you were born

Your silent slipping out

In place of a breath, a single pearl

Drifted from your mouth

The pearl shone softly with its own light

An opal warm translucence

And from its heart there came a warmth

That enchanted all my senses

Today it glows in my mind

As I walk beneath the trees

Its soft shape and beauty

Is echoed in all that I see

In the dewdrop on a spider’s web

The curve of a robin’s breast

The sheen of pebbles under the stream

Speckled eggs in a sparrow’s nest

In the dandelion seed cast on the wind

The glint in a blackbird’s eye

In the sparkles of light that dance on the brook

On the wings of a butterfly

Last night I dreamt that within my heart

A songbird had made its nest

And in its beak, it carried a pearl

That glowed within my chest

Last night I dreamt of the day you were born

When you quietly took your leave

But instead of a silence there was a song

That taught my soul to breathe.
