Jordan joined Sands as Outreach Coordinator for African and Caribbean communities in May 2025. With a background in bereavement support and mental health, she brings compassion, insight, and a safe space for open conversations around pregnancy and baby loss.

Her journey is rooted in a passionate commitment to Black maternal health, birth rights, bereavement support and the fight against racial inequalities in healthcare. In the UK, Black women are more than twice likely to experience pregnancy and baby loss compared to white women, yet their stories are often overlooked, and they are often left without the care and support they need and deserve.

At Sands, we’re working to ensure that Black voices are heard, represented, and supported through every step of grief and healing.
We currently have a monthly online support meeting for African and Caribbean families to join, however, Jordan has many plans for the future including developing more bereavement support and culturally appropriate resources for African and Caribbean communities, ensuring no one faces loss alone.

If you are a bereaved parent from the African and Caribbean community or an organisation that would like to get in touch, please send Jordan a direct message on Instagram (jordan.sands.acc) or email her at jordan.russell@sands.org.uk.
