We know that pregnancy and baby loss can affect anyone, but for those who have a visual impairment, have a learning disability, or who are not able to read printed text for any other reason, there can be additional barriers in accessing support. We want everyone who needs our support to be able to access it in the way that they need.

One of our values is to ensure that we are inclusive in everything that we do. At Sands, we are constantly reviewing the support that we offer to see what improvements can be made so it is accessible and inclusive to all. Having bereavement support resources available in an audio format will now mean that more people who have sadly experienced pregnancy loss or the death of a baby can access support.

'We are delighted that our key bereavement support resources are now available in audio format as well as printed and downloadable versions, as this will make them much more accessible. So much information about maternity care, pregnancy and baby loss is primarily available through printed leaflets or blocks of text on websites. If a person cannot read the information they need, this can make the experience of pregnancy or baby loss all the more frightening. We hope that these new audio resources will make a real difference to those who need them.'

Rowena Pailing, Head of Bereavement Support Services at Sands

All chapters of our Bereavement Support Book, information about Pregnancy and Baby Loss at Work, and resources for those Bereaved Longer Ago are now available in an audio format as well as in standard printed text. We also have resources translated into an EasyRead format and multiple languages.
