We asked our #TeamSands Great North Run fundraisers, why they are taking on the 13.1 mile challenge this Sunday. It was great to hear from Sarah who told us why she is running and how she has found the fundraising...

Why are you running the Great North Run for Sands this year?

I’m taking part in the Great North Run this year as I had created a list of things to do/achieve before I’m 50 (which is approaching), on that list was to be able to run 10k! Somehow my little sister who lives in Newcastle persuaded me that the GNR would be a great idea! Actually both my sisters have taken part in the past!

Why did you choose to support Sands?

When thinking about fundraising I chose Sands because our beautiful little boy Charlie would be celebrating his 13th birthday this December and so I thought I’d run for him.

How have you found the fundraising?

With only a few days to go I have raised £800 so far! I have never run anything like this before and prior to training had only run as far as 5k, so I’m really proud I’ve got this far!

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to the atmosphere of running in the Toon and to the sense of achievement we’ll feel at the finish line!

We're so grateful for Sarah's support this year and are so proud of all that she's achieved by getting into running and by raising £800 - which is just incredible! If Sarah has inspired you to take on the Great North Run next year in 2020, you can apply for a charity place place by emailing The Events Team at Sands. They'll send you an application form to complete and you'll hear if you have been successful shortly after.
