“I was so shocked and sad when I heard. I was worried about not saying the right thing but thanks to advice from Sands, I realised all I really needed to do was show I care and would be there whenever they needed me.” Friend
Many family members and friends are at a loss as to what to say or do when a baby dies. If you have a relative or friend whose baby has died you may be experiencing your own grief while worrying about how to support the parents and the rest of the family.
You are welcome to use any of our support services including our helpline and to read our leaflet For family & friends - how you can help. It explains common reactions of bereaved parents and how you could offer help and support them.
Our booklet For family and friends has been written for family members, friends and colleagues who are affected when a baby dies before, during or after birth.
